SellOff.ng is a Nigerian e-commerce website for new and fairly used products. The brand was birthed out of the need to satisfy a segment of the Nigerian market that highly demands secondhand items. They help buyers to stop wanting things they can’t afford but start getting the same items at meagre prices and sellers to earn some money by featuring their neat and quality fairly used items on the platform. Some of the products available for sale and purchase on SellOff.ng include computing items, phones and tablets, electronics, fashion items, sporting equipment, and more. The brand aims at being the safest online shopping platform in Nigeria and has put in place strategies to curb fraudulent activities among users of their online store.
SellOff.ng was an idea put together by our client and his team, however, they didn’t know how to go about the implementation of those big ideas. They wanted to create a convenient online shopping experience (web and mobile app) with a secure payment system for people who want to buy quality used items. Among other things, they were sceptical about how issues regarding fraud and theft can be avoided; they needed a system that secures all users of their platform and prevents any form of fraudulent activities. To get started as a new brand, they required a brand identity as they didn’t have a brand name, logo, colour, or mantra yet. In terms of marketing, they needed to popularize the idea of e-commerce, onboard sellers to the platform, and get buyers trooping in. Generally, they wanted to increase their brand awareness and the number of users of their platform.
We had a discovery meeting with our client where we listened to his idea, performed a SWOT analysis, brainstormed on the brand name, slogan, and everything else about their identity. We selected ‘SellOff.ng’ among all the options presented, and selected the logo and mantra as well. The e-commerce website developed by our team includes features like the Escrow payment system, seller verification and dispute resolution system, blog, product promotion, messaging, and more.
Our Digital Marketing team came up with a functional strategy to help in achieving our client’s goals; we listed them on Google My Business, created and set up their profile on various social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube), which were all handled by our team. We created content to engage, interact, and project the brand to their target audience; and our Copywriter created the web copy, social media posts, uploaded articles on their blog twice a week and sent out weekly email marketing newsletters to their subscribers. Before the launch date, 2 short animated explainer videos (in English Language and Nigerian Pidgin-English) were created by our animator to help in creating brand awareness for the new marketplace while our Graphic Designer created all visual materials used by the brand. Other services we rendered include Search Engine Optimization, Pay Per Click Ads, and the maintenance of their robust e-commerce App.
We also trained SellOff.ng’s Field Marketers and Customer Success Representatives on how to make use of the Application and perform their duties of onboarding and verifying both sellers and buyers, approving products to be uploaded on the platform, settling disputes between users, and other technical aspects. To ensure that all our activities were recorded and tracked regularly, we made use of collaborative tools like Slack and WhatsApp Messenger to communicate.
Recently, SellOff.ng’s management increased the scope of their project to include the sales of new items, and classified ads for the automobile and properties categories. We implemented the changes and onboarded new sales in these categories.
Before the launch of the e-commerce website, we had over 650 pre-signups from 33 states within Nigeria; in less than a month, Facebook has received over 5000 likes, while the website had 15 vendors with 36 products, 797 App users, 69 video views on YouTube, and 5 Field Marketers. SellOff.ng ranked for 7 search queries relating to used products on the first day of its launch; up until now, it still ranks high on search engines for several keywords relating to used products in Nigeria and their progressing online presence has attracted both sellers and buyers to their platform. SellOff.ng’s users also feel safe when trading on the e-commerce website because of the verification process for sellers and the Escrow payment system.
