Website Development, Content Revamp
Nigeria Book Fair Trust (NBFT) is a non-governmental organisation incorporated in 2002 that strives to promote book trade and improve reading culture among Nigerians. They stand as the umbrella body for major stakeholders in the Nigeria book sector and are endorsed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, Education Trust Fund (ETF), and the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). NBFT is the organiser of the annual Nigeria International Book Fair and the Regional Book Fairs which usually hold in Abuja, Enugu, and Ibadan; they are committed to increasing the accessibility and affordability of books and other literary materials across Nigeria.
In preparation for the upcoming Nigeria International Book Fair, which is known as the second-largest international Book Fair in Africa and the only international Book Fair in Nigeria, NBFT called on us to develop an appealing website to promote and publicise this yearly event. Since we had previously worked with Rasmed Publications, a brand in their industry, they were confident in our ability to deliver the project just how they wanted it and within their specified time frame. As they are now an internationally recognised event, the website development project was dear to their heart and they needed it to portray them in the best possible light as well as to feature every piece of information about their brand and its activities.
As always, we never begin a project without having an in-depth understanding of our client’s requirement. Our team, consisting of a Web Developer, Project Manager, and Copywriter held an online video meeting with a member of the NIBF team. We were shown samples of international Book Fair websites whose concept were quite inspirational, they also informed us about their requirement, project objectives, and general information about their upcoming event. The Organisation needed the website to go Live as soon as possible to provide prospective Exhibitors with the information they need to participate in the event; this left us with only one week to deliver the project.
Our Copywriter used the information contained in the Google Drive links we received, to write the web copy, edit, and revamp all articles meant for the website and blog. On the other hand, the Web Developer sent out website templates that could be used to replicate their preferred website samples and they arrived at a decision. Our major communication channels were WhatsApp Messenger and phone calls while the Project Manager helped in ensuring the NIBF team provided us with every other information we needed to deliver the project before the deadline.
The website we designed was both informational and photo-centric; it contained 7 major pages- Home, About Us, Exhibition, Be A Speaker, Gallery, FAQs, and Contact Us as well as a Blog that can easily be managed by the NBTF team and doesn’t require any technical knowledge. The Home page also contains a section that counts down till the day of the event; it shows how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds are left until its commencement. Other features include an eCommerce feature that lets users select and item on the website and add it to their cart; it also has a payment integration that aids payments for purchased items.
The launch of the website has helped NIBF to match their status as an internationally recognised event. Compared to their previous website, an increase in the number of website visitors has been recorded as well as an increase in its page loading time. Attendees and Exhibitors now have access to all the information they need to know about the event (venue, payment information, guidelines, schedule, and more).
A picture is worth a thousand words, so we created a Gallery page to show off pictures from the past years’ events and spur people’s interest to attend the forthcoming event. According to our client, they have gotten more enquiries, requests and engagement on the website and social media accounts.
“Generally speaking, our decision to work with Big Field Digital was reinforced by their ability to reflect a brand’s image just the way the brand owners envisioned it. We sent them international Book Fair sample sites which we wanted our site to resemble, and they gave us just what we wanted. We are impressed with the quality of their creativity, visual communication skills and ability to meet a deadline”- Adedapo Damilola Adebayo, IT Specialist and Project Manager at NIBF.
